Abstract: This paper performs an analysis of the improvement to system availability that Gaussian-Pareto overbounds could provide for navigation systems. In particular, this work compares the availability of the GaussianPareto overbounds to Gaussian overbounds on measurements from a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). This improvement is particularly stark with the high integrity requirements of safety-critical navigation systems. However, the increased availability requires increased computational cost due to the numerical integration required for mapping the statistical models through the navigation algorithms to the system outputs. This technique is demonstrated with generalized least squares for GNSS-based positioning using pseudorange measurements.
