Abstract: In order to further improve the economy of parking sensor, this paper take vehicles’ acoustic signal into account. A new acoustic monitoring system is proposed to help driver parking the vehicle. This system only uses the acoustic signals generated by the vehicle itself and the echoes from the obstacles behind the vehicle. The sound transmission is modeled by a time-delay system such that the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle can be obtained by estimating the time delay parameter. An algorithm by utilizing Padé approximation and recursive extended least square method are also developed to calculate the time difference between the acoustic signals. Simulations are provided to testify the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
