Abstract: | This paper describes the concepts of integrating satellite navigation, data management and wireless communication systems for the development of a mobile information management system. Such a system requires an open architecture, which is capable of processing data from a variety of databases including data retrieval, manipulation, analyzing, presentation, representation and decision making and could result in considerable operational cost savings for mobile asset management. To demonstrate the concepts, a prototype system was developed with an application to the real-time maintenance of lightplant equipment in a large mining environment. |
