Time Transfer With the Navstar Global Positioning System

Ben Roth, William Klepczynski, R. Glenn Hall

Abstract: The Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based, radio positioning, navigation system which was authorized for development by DOD in December, 1973. The system will provide extremely accurate, three dimensional position and velocity information, together with system time, to suitably equipped users anywhere on or near the earth. Concept validation field tests were completed in the Spring of 1979. One of the objectives of these tests was to evaluate the performance by measuring the precision and accuracy of the transfer of GPS time to the static user.
