The System Design of a Rubidium Maser Frequency Standard

X. Cheng-Xi

Abstract: The Rubidium Maser Frequency Standard precision frequency source with excellent short-term stability. A type PBR-II Rb maser frequency standard has been developed by the Beijing Institute of Radio Metrology and Measurement (BIRM). Two PBR-11 frequency standards have been used as reference frequency sources in frequency stability measurement system. In this paper some important system characteristics for the PBR-II Pb maser frequency standard such as phase noise and frequency stability transfer characteristics will be discussed. Furthermore, the following topics will be included as well: 1. Design of the frequency standard for optimum frequency stability of the output signal. 2. The choice of a VCXO for the frequency standard. 3. The design of the phase-locked 100D. The frequency stability test results on the PBR-11 show the achievement of the system design goals given above.
