Abstract: | The received GNSS signals have very low signal power due to traveling a long distance and the nature of the signal’s propagation medium. This makes them readily susceptible to signal interference. The GNSS signal interference could be unintentional, e.g., interfering the signal with other signals in the same Radio Frequency (RF) band or due to multipath. Alternatively, on the contrary, the signal interference could be deliberate—commonly called signal jamming. Signal jamming is an increasing worldwide problem that causes degradation or interruption in GNSS position, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. The objectives of this research are evaluating the impact of linear chirp jamming on commercial GNSS receivers and investigating the benefits of using combined GPS/GLONASS systems on navigation solution under such circumstances. The Spirent GSS6700 simulator combined with an interference signal generator was used to evaluate the performance of both NovAtel ProPak-G2 Plus and OEMV receivers under linear chirp jamming scenario. The signal power degradation, navigation solution availability, positioning accuracy and dilution of precision (DOP) were used as evaluation metrics for receivers’ performance assessment. Solutions that comprised both GPS and GLONASS systems provided a significant improvement in all the performance measures mentioned earlier. |
