Abstract: This paper presents a roll angle estimation algorithm that can be employed in all spinning projectiles regardless of their spin rate. The proposed algorithm uses GNSS velocity information in combination with 2 axis rate gyroscope measurements. An important contribution of the paper is that the algorithm is designed considering the GNSS measurements has much lower data rate than the gyroscope measurements and may contain high amounts of error under high dynamics. Simulation results demonstrate that the method is able to accurately estimate the roll angle and can be applied to an actual system.
