Abstract: RTCA, Inc.’s Special Committee 159 is updating its assessments of interference to GNSS in the 1559 – 1610 MHz and 1164 – 1215 MHz bands. Previous assessments were published in 2004 (1164 – 1215 MHz) within RTCA document DO-292 and 2008 (1559 – 1610 MHz) within DO-235B. The updated assessments are needed to establish interference requirements for next-generation airborne GNSS equipment standards now in development by RTCA and the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE). This paper presents the results of an updated assessment of one significant component of interference to airborne GNSS equipment, which is self-interference from the GNSS signals themselves. Inter-system interference refers to undesired effects from the signals broadcast by one constellation to the signals broadcast by another (e.g., GPS-to-Galileo) and intra-system interference refers to undesired interactions between signals broadcast by satellites within the same core constellation (e.g., GPS-to-GPS).
