Abstract: | This paper will review issues that highlight the potential need for alternative managerial and organizational approaches for US Government-provided GPS services. Building on a related paper presented at the ION 2000 National Technical Meeting, several possible managerial models will be presented with an emphasis placed on providing comprehensive Global Positioning and Timing Services (GPtS) to civil and military users. The potential responsibilities of the various alternative management structures will be discussed, and a recommended evolutionary path to a new management structure will be presented. The potential for this new management structure to evolve from the current Interagency GPS Executive Board and related management arrangements will also be highlighted. |
