Abstract: | Vector delay and frequency locked loop (VDFLL) has more robust signal tracking ability in signal degradation environment compared with the scalar locked loop (SLL) used in the conventional global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. In order to add carrier phase tracking and navigation data demodulation capability to the VDFLL, this paper presents a serial PLL structure based on previous works. This serial PLL uses the carrier frequency estimated by VDFLL as its input and works independently so as not to affect the original VDFLL even if the PLL fails. This method provides VDFLL with carrier phase tracking ability and can be applied to cases requiring carrier phase information such as real time kinematic positioning. The proposed VDFLL with serial PLL approach is implemented based on a software global positioning system (GPS) receiver. Simulation data from a GPS signal generator and road-collected real data are used to test the presented serial PLL. The results show that the proposed serial PLL can track the carrier phase and demodulate the navigation bits correctly. |
