Abstract: | Rockwell Collins is now offering the GEM V receiver to meet both the SAASM mandate and the GPS Joint Program Office (JPO) GRAM initiative. As part of the long GEM legacy, the GEM V retains the Mod SEM-E form factor and connector, and provides the robust All-in-View and DO-229 FDE RAIM capabilities of the GEM IV. Instead of the standard GEM III/IV ICD-GEM-DPRAM interface, the GEM V will support the GRAM interface, which is the standard JPO interface for airborne receivers. In addition, the GEM V employs the Rockwell Collins KDP II-based SAASM 3.0 that is BDR approved. The GEM V receiver is a straightforward replacement for existing GEM III/IV integrations. Rockwell Collins will continue to provide high quality PVT performance and functionality across all the GEM designs. Even though the GEM V interface has changed to a GRAM format, the GEM V still provides host control and status information equivalent to, or better than, the GEM III/IV receivers. With the incorporation of the SAASM architecture, Rockwell Collins provides an unclassified Line-of-Sight (LOS) measurement interface (U.S. Patent Number 6,018,314). In addition, the Rockwell Collins SAASM 3.0 design is a low-risk technology insertion because the design essentially repackages current signal processing ASICs in a NSA approved package, and has received GPS JPO BDR approval. |
