Abstract: | The deposit of waste on dumping sites will play an im- portant role in this new millennium in the disposal con- cepts of both domestic refuse and industrial waste. It is absolutely necessary to register and document the geome- try of the dumping surface during the emplacement and after the end of the emplacement, as considerable defor- mations and settlements occur. Using the Global Posi- tioning System (GPS) in the Real Time Kinematic (RTK) mode combined with an inclination and an azimuth sen- sor, we have the possibility to obtain data about dumping surfaces with high accuracy and density without influenc- ing the dumping process considerably. A special evalua- tion and visualisation software, which contains algo- rithms for scientific analysis of the registered data, has been developed. The continuous processing of the data with a tracking rate of 10 Hz allows a representation of the actual surface with high information density. The re- sult is a real time description of the surface from which an estimation of the volume can be derived. The visuali- sation contains control information for the driver, as the actual geometry is compared with the 3D-planing-model. This new multi sensor system allows a replacement of conventional surveying methods and has the potential to increase the efficiency of emplacement. |
