Abstract: | A Television Positioning System (TVPS) plays an important role in the accuracy enhancement of an Automatic Flight Inspection System (AFIS). In order for the inertial-based system to achieve accuracies on the order of one foot or less, the AFIS system requires fix operations using TVPS at the runway threshold and at the runway end. In recent years, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been transitioning towards a completely automatic flight inspection system, which does not require an interface to the flight inspection operator. In a completely automatic flight inspection system, the TVPS system performs automatic threshold and runway end image fixes. This paper describes the TVPS concept along with a proposed neural network implementation for the purpose of automation of the flight inspection system. |
