Fast, Low Energy GPS Navigation With Massively Parallel Correlator Array Technology

Wai C. Lee, Gary L. Slimak, and Gary A. McGraw

Abstract: This paper introduces a new Fast Acquisition Engine (FAE) correlator device that can be applied to conventional GPS receivers to reduce the acquisition time and the overall energy per position fix by more than ten-fold. In this paper, we provide an overview of the FAE operation, then discuss the implementation of the FAE into a GPS receiver breadboard. Results from performance testing are discussed and future development directions considered.
