Abstract: | Recent progress in the field of the satellite navigation systems (GNSS, SBAS) supports effort to use it for the determination of train position for the railway safety-related systems. The key feature of localization from the point of view of safety-related applications in transportation is integrity. Currently available SBAS systems were developed in order to satisfy the aviation requirements, but the safety concept on the railways is very different from the aviation safety concept. The integrity level of these systems is not suitable for the safetyrelated railway applications. The railway safety concept in Europe is determined by means of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50129, EN IEC 61508). The most broadened standard for railway control systems is ERTMSETCS in Europe. This control system is used primarily for main corridors. Within this system there is need to install elements on the track (e.g. balises). The need of install an on-track equipment significantly increases costs for deployment of this system. Current strategy of evolution of railway control systems is adoption of GNSS-based positioning to ERTMS-ETCS platform. This strategy can brings significant reduction of costs. It is firstly intended for low density lines and for freight lines. Within railway standards, the biggest challenge for adoption of GNSSpositioning is attainment of Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL 4), where Hazardous Failure rate should be less than 10-9 during 1 hour of operation. New proposed method for improving integrity of GNSS position solution for applications in ground transportation is described. Performance of the method was investigated by simulation of pseudorange errors. In this paper results are evaluated analytically by repetition of simulations with mathematical model and overall appreciation of method ant its performance. |
