Study on Wideband and Pulse Interference Mitigation Techniques with RAW BD Data

Abstract: Beidou navigation satellite system (BD) is confronted with various potential interference sources, including wideband jamming and pulse interference. Both of these two interferences usually occupy broadband spectrum and have high interference-to-noise ratio (INR), that lead to the BD receiver can not work well. Thus, the anti-interference treatment must be carried on. Several interference mitigation methods existed in open materials analyze and process these two kind of interferences respectively, while for the scenario of wideband jamming and pulse interference present simultaneously, these anti-interference approaches become invalid. In this paper, a novel technique of wideband and pulse interference mitigation is proposed for BD receiver based on space-time filtering. The proposed method firstly selects the training samples of the wideband jamming according to the prior information that the wideband jamming is persistent and pulse interference is intermittent. Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) is utilized to remove wideband jamming and then, a time-domain pulse blanking is followed to eliminate residual pulse interference. The experiments with raw BD data show that in the environment of wideband jamming and intense pulse interference existing, BD receiver cannot capture any satellite signals. Processing wideband and pulse interference respectively by STAP or time-domain pulse blanking only cannot recover the ability of BD receiver. While, after interference mitigation by our proposed technique, BD receiver can capture multiple satellites, which fully demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm. The proposed technique has an important significance in improving the usability of BD receiver in the complex environment.
