Information Dominance Utilization of Advanced GPS Receiver in the 21st Century Battlespace

Joseph P. Lortie Jr.

Abstract: hint Vision 2010 defines the principles by which the US military will prosecute future military campaigns in the information age. “Information Dominance” is the foundation from which successful execution of military operations will evolve. Today, GPS is rapidly becoming one of the pivotal information mediums designed to support a myriad of military applications. However, there are system limitations and vulnerabilities that must be addressed if the Department of Defense (DoD) is to filly exploit the inherent warfighting capabilities of this satellite constellation. Corrections of these shortfalls have been the primary focus of.the Department’s Navigation Warfare (Navwar) program. This paper will highlight the technologies and operational performance of Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTD) receivers while providing a broader perspective on DoD’s future technology path to ensure effective operation with GPS in the challenged 21st battlespace environment.
