An end-to-end Indoor Positioning Solution Using Wi-Fi Signal Strength Fingerprinting

Nima Sadrieh

Abstract: This paper presents the end-to-end Indoor positioning solution of Rx networks Inc. based on Wi-Fi fingerprinting. The main focus of this paper is on creating the database. Since the creation of fingerprinting database requires some manual effort, it is often considered as the main drawback of fingerprinting solutions. Here, a method to utilize the crowd sourced Wi-Fi scans to form a fingerprinting database is introduced, where at least 98% of the utilized data to create the database are Wi-Fi scans with no geo-tags. Moreover, a semi automatic method to collect the seed geo-tagged information is explained. The outlier detection methods to mitigate manual blunders are also described. At end by presenting the test procedure, and test results the system specification is presented.
