A CRPA Based Preprocessor Design for GNSS-Receivers with Optimized Output Signal

Ulrich Engel

Abstract: A novel preprocessor concept for GNSS receivers is presented, which is based on an antenna array (CRPA). It is assumed, that the proposed preprocessor is connected via the standard RF-interface with a GNSS receiver. The aim of the proposed preprocessing concept is to achieve the same signal quality (i.e. same C/No) at the output of the preprocessor for all GNSS satellite signals. This C/No equalization is achieved by using the null steering and beam steering capabilities of the CRPA antenna. All relevant processing steps will be described in detail. The performance of the proposed preprocessor concept is analysed using outdoor measurements, which have been recorded with our 7-element hexagonal antenna array and our eightchannel recording system (ECHSE).
