Abstract: | Since the publication of IEEE 1588-2008 the number of applications based on the standard has exploded. The standard is currently open for revision and will result in incorporation of improvements and simplifications based on the experience since 2008. In the realm of cyber-physical systems, CPS, there is growing awareness that robust solutions must include the consideration of time. This is evidenced by activity in recently constituted industry and quasi-standards organizations which at least in part has been stimulated by progress and adoption of 1588 and of the specialized profiles derived from 1588. This paper will review these developments and activities and highlight needed future developments. |
