Abstract: | The road sector is the most dynamic and growing field for GNSS applications, far beyond vehicle navigation. Since navigation signals are received at a power level some magnitude below the thermal noise floor, they can easily be obscured by interference signals. In order to give operators of commercial and financial critical applications, requiring high integrity, the means to act on detected interference events, it is envisaged for the next development step to make information on the interference environment available to service providers and exchange information among them. In this paper, we evaluate sensors and extensions of standards, from the road transportation sector that are used for exchange of traffic related information, to support also interference data exchange. To develop standards for systems of road traffic engineering, the initiative “OCIT© - Open Communication Interface for Road Traffic Control Systems” was founded by the companies SIEMENS, Swarco Traffic Systems, AVT Stoye and Stührenberg. To exchange sensor data among road users, ITS standards are currently under development at ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). With the focus on these standards, extensions to enable an interference data exchange service are proposed. |
