Abstract: | Fiber-optic gyroscopes hold the potential of lower unit manufacturing costs and high reliability resulting from the lack of moving parts. Fiber gyroscopes have been proposed from a number of navigation, guidance and control system applications. The basic principles of operation and the various mechanizations of fiber optic gyroscopes will be covered. The state of the art in fiber optic gyroscopes will be reviewed in terms of elimination of errors. The additional developments required to achieve fiber optic gyroscopes suitable for strapdown applications will be explored; |
