Vehicle Tracking System for Salem, Oregon Police Department

Brian Riley, Laurence Cortland

Abstract: It long has been a goal to monitor the position and condition or status of a fleet of vehicles. Until recently, cost was such that only few organizations could afford the equipment required. Recent advancements in micro processor technology and its inherent cost reductions combined with innovative application designs have produced an effective low cost Vehicle Tracking System (VTS). In a classic example of coordinated requirement definition and system development, II Morrow Inc., utilizing its Loran C receiver and computer experience, working with personnel from the Salem Pollee Department, have developed the VTS for police application. This paper reviews the Salem Police Vehicle Tracking System.
