GPS/JTIDS Compatibility

Raymond C. Cumming, Richard L. Heinze, Raymond R. Moser Jr.

Abstract: This paper discusses the technical evaluation made through a series of tests by SRI International to determine the potential interference to a GPS man pack receiver manufactured by Rockwell-Collins, which results from its collocation with transmitters that are part of two US Army communications systems. These two communications systems are the Position Location and Reporting System (PLRS) and the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS). The main finding of the evaluation is that the GPS receiver can function without degradation when PLRS and JTIDS transmitters are operating within close proximity, under the conditions described in this paper.
