Abstract: The existing Loran-C infrastructure may with some minor changes become a very powerful augmentation system for GNSS. By additional modulation of the Loran-Cpulses a long range data channel can be established which enables broadcasting of DGNSS correction data and integrity information to GNSS users. The applied additional three-level modulation is fully balanced so it has negligible influence on the basic Loran-Cpositioning accuracy. Since 1989 Derft University has been working on this system called Eurojx [l]. The user can expect DGNSS accuracies of better than 5 meters (95%). As long as DGNSSperformance is excellent the ASF values of the Loran-Cpropagation can continuously and accurately be updated by the calculated DGNSS positions. During periods ofpoor GNSS reception in urban canyons, highly calibrated Loran-C may take over. So, the Eurofix system ofers the user very good DGNSS service, external GNSS integrity and improved radionavigation availability. In Januay 1997 the German DoTallowed implementation of Eur0f.x in the Sylt Loran-Cstation on experimental basis. The paper highlights some on-air DGPS perjormance experiments of Eurofix carried out in France and in the Netherlands. With fill European coverage of a differential GNSS service via Loran-C, a user can calculate a Networked Pseudo Range Correction to reduce spatial decorrelation errors. Post-processing results of this Regional Area Augmentation System are presented.
