The GPS Users Integration Guide

Richard L. Greenspan, James I. Donna, J. Arnold Soltz

Abstract: The GPS Users Integration Guide (Reference 1) provides a comprehensive introduction to the technical aspects of integrating High Dynamics GPS User Equipment on USAF Aircraft.* It was written primarily for system managers in Government and Industry who are responsible for these integrations. Therefore, the guide formulates various design and performance evaluation aspects of integration within the framework of a recommended management approach. The text of the guide addresses GPS integrations that exploit capabilities of the standard Phase 3 user equipment (e.g. , GPS RCVR-3A) developed under DoD contract as opposed to non developmental item (NDI) equipment. Reference 2 provides an overview of the interfaces, operating modes, and capabilities of RCVR-3A circa summer 1987. Inasmuch as GPS user equipment is evolving, and the experience base for GPS integration is modest (circa 1987) the GPS Users Integration Guide will be an evolving document. The original release is being revised in 1988 to add chapters on antenna integration and flight test instrumentation and procedures. The original chapters will also be updated to reflect new information about RCVR-3A and integration technology.
