Land Navigation and Fleet Management With GPS, Loran, and Dead Reckoning Sensors

Tom Hunter, Javad Ashjaee

Abstract: Ash tech's Hunter Vehicle Tracking System is presented in this paper, Technology and block diagram of the system are discussed. Elements of In Vehicle Unit (IVU) and .the Dispatch Control Unit (DCU) are studied. Positional map matching techniques as an aid are included. Some practical considerations about the communications links are presented. Map data base generation from common geodetically referenced data sources such as the 7.5 minute USGS quads is discussed. Implemented as a geodetically referenced system the presented VTS can accept inputs from sensors navigational receivers such as GPS and Loran-e. A comparison of results between GPS and Loran is also presented in this paper.
