Test Results for The High Dynamics Instrumentation Set

Abstract: The GPS Range Applications Program (GPS-RAP) requires accurate time-space-position information (TSPI) for the tri-service test and training ranges. To meet this requirement, Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC) has developed a family of GPS-user equipment that includes the High Dynamics Instrumentation Set (HDIS). This paper presents the evaluation of initial test results from static as well as dynamic field runs on board an instrumented van and a T-39 aircraft at the Eglin Air Force Base. Unaided and IRU-aided GPS receiver accuracy data for absolute and differential navigation modes were taken and compared to "truth" references including DMA surveys and laser. GPS-RAP requirements for real time differential accuracy of an IRU-aided GPS receiver are specified for worst-case dynamics of l0g's acceleration and lOg's/sec jerk. In-house testing, using satellite simulator test sets (SSTS), were performed to verify HDIS performance under these specified worst-case dynamic conditions. With an HDOP of 1.5, the requirements are for 6-ft horizontal position error and 1.7-ft/sec horizontal velocity error. In the vertical dimension with VDOP of 2.5, the requirements are for 12-ft position error and 2.7-ft/sec velocity error. Test data presented show that the receiver meets or exceeds all TSPI performance requirements within the ability of the truth source to measure accuracy.
