Abstract: | The Precise Range and Range Rate Equipment PRARE is an experiment of the Federal Republic of Germany and is funded by the Ministery of Research and Technology (BMFr) for its first use during the ERS-1 mission. The spaceborne dual-frequency microwave-system for satellite orbit- and geodetic position-determination provides two-way ranges and two-way doppler-counts as observations. The sub-decimeter accuracy, as well as the weather independency of the automatically collected and routinely processed data in a central facility make the PRARE-System an ideal complement and alternative to existing and future techniques. It is outlined that the PRARE-System will be available on additional satellite missions to support geodetic, geodynamic, remote sensing and navigation applications. |
