UK Reference Station for Navstar GPS

Abstract: Implicit in the specification of an aircraft navigation system are requirements for navigation accuracy, reliability and integrity. Some types of equipment, for example Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), are autonomous allowing the above parameters to be defined with reference only to the aircraft system. However as with other radio-navigation systems, GPS equipment performance relies on the accuracy and integrity of the transmitted signal. Specifications for GPS equipments should therefore be made with reference to the satellite Signal in Space (SIS) performance. The requirement for SIS information is well known to those involved in acceptance testing and operational proving of GPS based navigation systems. RAE has found the SIS information provided during testing at Yuma Proving Grounds (YPG) indispensable for the accurate analysis of test results.
