A Parallel Tracking Handheld--Architecture and Performance

Ralph Eschenbach, Paul Braisted, Ted Rakel, Lynn Weber

Abstract: During the last year, Trimble Navigation has taken the TRIMPACK, a ruggedized, two channel, battery powered GPS receiver, and has added more hardware channels. Although adding more cost and power to the system, the result is much improved performance, with still only four watts of power. This paper looks at the architecture and performance of this system. Some of the performance tradeoffs will be discussed and some performance data will be given particularly comparing the dynamics performance of a two and a six channel receiver.
