Abstract: | This paper presents the application of the new time synchronization protocol, PTP (Precision Time Protocol), and the verification result of that over VPN (Virtual Private Network) and satellite communication. Some use NTP (Network Time Protocol) for the time synchronization through the Internet. Although NTP is not accurate enough for the systems dealing with the time stamp like the financial transactions, the industrial field, and the next generation communications. PTP is also called IEEE 1588 and it will be of help in such situation. In addition since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the satellite communication is taken seriously in case that the terrestrial network cannot be used in terms of managing the MICT (Medical Information and Communications Technology) network. We have verified and simulated the accuracy of PTP time synchronization over VPN and satellite communication. We performed and succeeded in the time synchronization through the experimental satellite for communication, WINDS, using PTP. This is the first challenge of time synchronization using the communication satellite. In addition we will produce the compensating method of time synchronization in asymmetric great delay network. |
