Abstract: This paper describes the development of a north finder with electrostatic gyro (ESG) in China. The scheme of the north finder with electrostatic gyro is presented. The estimation algorithm of azimuth is introduced. The preliminary experimental results are provided. It is shown that the instrument would have north-seeking accuracy better than 10” and measurement time less than 30 min with some improvement.
