Development of a New Digital Electromagnetic Log Using Discrete Time Processing Techniques

John Peterson

Abstract: The redesign of a conventional navigation system is presented. System Architecture, input signal characteristics, and analog hardware components are briefly discussed. Focus is placed on the implementation of an adaptive coherent detection algorithm, based on the Least Mean Square (LMS) gradient search technique. Simulations are provided that illustrate the algorithms performance characteristics (learning curve and misadjustment). The use of a fixed infinite impulse response (IIR) filter and a multirate linear phase shift network is also presented.
