Abstract: | Providing authenticated position and time services is becoming a major requirement in many GNSS applications, demonstrating the need of tools capable to design, assess and validate protection mechanisms. This work describes the system design of a test bed that has the objective to both assess the performance and limitations of current GNSS receiver authentication solutions as wellas test innovative authentication schemes for the signal. The GNSS Authentication and User Protection System Simulator (GAUPSS) is divided in three main blocks: SCSV (Simulator Controller Software and Validator) is the software that controls GNSS signal generators; SASMO (SAS and NMA Simulator) is a software defined multi-constellation GNSS signal generator which provides authenticated signals; SWR (Software Receiver) is a multi-constellation software defined GNSS receiver which provides detection of counterfeited signals at acquisition and tracking stages, as well as support for authenticated signals simulated by SASMO. GAUPSS is an ideal testbed to assess the performances of authentication schemes both at user and system level, since software modules can be easily modified and adapted. The project is now in its final validation campaign (foreseen November 2012) and first results will be available early 2013. |
