Towards a Practical Indoor Lighting Positioning System

Abstract: Indoor optical wireless positioning with a differential photoreceiver (PR) is implemented. The PR structure is able to extract angle of arrival (AOA) bearings from multiple fixed light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in an indoor positioning grid in order to triangulate the position of the PR. The AOA-based technique shows limited sensitivity to optical intensity fluctuations in the environment and demonstrates three-dimensional (3-D) position accuracies of better than 5 cm.
