Abstract: | A joint Harris/Litton/Trimble IR&D project in the fall of 1993 established the objective of producing an Engineering Demonstration Model of an Embedded GPS Receiver - Control & Display Unit (EGR-CDU). The GPS receiver would be capable of receiving and processing both Ll and L2 (Y & C/A code) signals while the CDU’s processor would be responsible for all Flight Management functions. The advantages of this implementation are significant, with the primary benefit of being able to provide a reduction in installation volume, weight, and power. The use of multiple EGR-CDUs and a Signal Data Convertor (GPS-SDC) provides an integrated design that is both redundant and easy to install thereby reducing program costs for either retrofiting or new installations. |
