Abstract: | This paper compares the performance of two classes of FLL, those which employ differential-power discriminators and those which use differential-phase discriminators. Novel expressions are presented which characterize these and their resultant steady-state tracking performance. Through the use of the theory developed and extensive computer simulation, both the steady-state and transient performance of FLLs employing the two classes of discriminator are examined and compared. Design guidelines are presented for the choice and configuration of these carrier frequency discriminators for GNSS receivers under a selection of common operating conditions. |
