Abstract:	A summary view of the need for Arctic magnetic studies, what has been accomplished in the past, what specifically should be done, the difficulties involved, and how the problem might be approached. It is clearly stated at the outset that the problem is far from being neglected, but that for various reasons no public statements regarding actual proposals or plans are possible at this time.
