Abstract: Climate Through the Ages. My first reaction to the suggestion that I review a book on climate was that such an action on my part would border on impertinence, in view of my meagre background in the subject. I accepted the assignment for two reasons: first, a quick thumbing of the book revealed no obvious technicalities that would confine it to the libraries of the esoteric; second, I realized that most of the readers of Navigation are not primarily students of weather, geology, or paleontology, and therefore might tolerate the reactions of one whose interests were at most on the fringes of these subjects.
