NAUTICAL AND STATUTE MILE CONTROVERSY

Merrill Armour

Peer Reviewed

Abstract: Commander McCarthy has given a helpful and informative resume of the background of the controversy and perhaps most of the arguments supporting the proposition that knots and nautical miles are superior to miles per hour and statute miles for use in air navigation. I shall confine myself for the most part to the objections to the use of knots and nautical miles and dwell only incidentally on the background of this controversy and the relative merits of procedures followed.
