Abstract: The first volume of the long-awaited revision and expansion of H.O. Publication No. 249, Sight Reduction Tables for Air Navigation, containing computed altitudes and azimuths for 34’ selected stars and the bodies of the solar system, has been issued by the Hydrographic Office. Volume 1 is a revision of the Star Tables for Air Navigation, conceived and designed by Commander C. H. Hutchings, USN, and first published in a preliminary edition in 1947. In addition to the Star Tables, two more new volumes, providing complete data for the reduction of sun, moon and planet sights, are to follow. Volume 2 will cover latitudes O”-39” north and south, and Volume 3 latitudes 40”-89” north and south.
