THE SMALL GYRO-COMPASS

Andrew F. Cope

Peer Reviewed

Abstract: Summary This paper surveys briefly the manner in which gyroscopic principles gravity, and the earth’s rotation are used to create a north-seeking device. This discussion is followed by a description of engineering developments which now make it possible to increase the accuracy of the gyro-compass while at the same time decreasing its size.
