Abstract: Captain Leroy M. Campbell, USAF, a charter member of the James K. Fredrickson Chapter of The Institute of Navigation at Castle Air Force Base was one of the casualties of the crash of a B-52 aircraft near Madera, California on September 17, 1956. Captain Campbell was navigator of the bomber which crashed just six minutes from its base upon its return from a regular training flight. Another B-52 crashed November 30, 1956, north of Cressey, California less than five minutes after taking off from the same base. Four officers aboard the ship were also members of The Institute: Captain Leland F. Burch, Captain Nick S. Koss, Captain Charles W. Schweer, and Captain Jack E. Welch.
