Abstract: | From the title of this paper, it must seem to many that I am either foolish or over-ambitious. One might as readily give a talk entitled "Australia," except that it is unlikely that Australia will ever again offer those tremendous opportunities and challenges that produced navigators such as Flinders, Cook, Tasman and many others, whereas great opportunity for navigation, survey and cartography are just beginning to unfold as the huge "Slumbering Giant" to our south moves uneasily in its pre-awakening hours. |
