Abstract: | "REGAL" IS AN ACRONYM derived from the words Range and Elevation Guidance for Automatic Landing, which describes the functional objcctives of a system recently delivered to FAA/NAFEC by Gilfillan Bros. Our purpose in this paper is to describe the technical difficulties of deriving height information by electromagnetic means while achieving an operationally satisfartory system, and then to show how the REGAL system was designed to realize the technical and operational objectives. Finally, we will indicate future trends and possibilities. |
