GUIDANCE OF SPACE VEHICLES

John R. Scull

Peer Reviewed

Abstract: THE PRIMARY PURPOSE of this paper is to discuss the guidance of lunar and planetary spacecraft with less emphasis on satellites. The discussion will cover the tradeoffs between injection, midcourse, and terminal guidance and also the ways of mechanizing them with radio, inertial, or crlestial techniques. Examples of these guidance systems as applied to some of the current lunar and planetary spacecraft developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory will be described.
