GEON: A NEW NAVIGATION SYSTEM

W. S. von Arx

Peer Reviewed

Abstract: The word Geon is an acronym for Gyro Erected Optical Navigation. But before going into details, I thought it would be most interesting to you to show how we got into the navigation business. Dr. Columbus Iselin explained earlier that it is a necessary aprt of being an oceanographer to be able to navigate. But our main concern stemmed from an inquiry made about five years ago by our meteorologists on how to proceed in taking time-lapse motion pictures at sea of the development of trade wind cumulus clouds.
