Abstract: The introduction of jet transport aircraft and the advent of high performance beombers capable of lying at supersonic speed for extended periods of time has brought about much speculations as to how long it will be before supersonic transports will be flying the air routes of the world. Most of this speculation has to do with economics of operationk for technical discussions indicate that aeronautical engineers have a fairly common idea of the airframe design and pwerplant requirements for a supersonic transprot aircraft.
