Abstract: IN ALL FLYING MANEUVERS where the vertical distance from the ground is of interest and where this inforamtion is obtained from a pressure altimeter, it is necessary to be aware of the meteorological fact that the atmospheric pressure is unqually distributed over teh earth's surface. Especially in bad weather it is therefore of vital importance in takeoffs and landings to "correct" the pressure altimeter by setting a certain pressure value on the subscale of that instrument.
